Flyde Borough Council , Chief Engineer
Stephen initially worked for a number of contractors throughout the UK, gaining experience on roads and bridges, sea walls, marine lakes, treatment works, prisons and leisure centre contracts.
He then spent periods working for local authorities, water companies and consultants in bridge design and maintenance, hydraulic modelling and drainage design, general and municipal engineering, building, insurance, loss adjusting, and project management. His love of structures, however, meant that he specialized in the structural design of commercial, educational and domestic buildings.
He became involved in the Fairhaven and Church Scar Coastal Defence Scheme in 2010 when appointed as Fylde Council’s Chief Engineer. This meant that he approached the Environment Agencies funding process with an “open mind”, and was fortunate to assist in securing funding for this much needed scheme, and is currently supervising its construction. His open and candid view of the process of delivering this scheme will make compelling listening.
